She also regularly collaborates with a talented network of trusted professionals, including copywriters, editors, and programmers.

Let’s learn a little more about Nancy …

Tell us about what led you to strike out on your own to start your own business, Creative Zip, and how it has evolved over the years.

The company I was working for was downsizing and approached the marketing designers to see if one of us would volunteer to take leave. I said “Pick Me!” and the rest is history. I have never looked back.

Creative Zip has grown from a one person operation to an 8+ team of passionate marketing professionals. One thing that hasn’t changed is we work with clients we adore.

When we first opened our doors the bulk of our work was creating printed materials. That has really changed. We have expanded our capabilities to better serve our clients. Today our work includes trade show branding and management, Prezi development and all facets of electronic marketing.

And who is Zip?

Me. As a toddler, I had a stuffed monkey named Zip. We were inseparable. I loved everything about him—the yellow Zip t-shirt, red felt overalls and a red and white floppy hat. In light of my affection for this little fellow, my dad started to call me Zip.

Fast forward to the day I started the company and sought an appropriate name for it. I wanted a name, which described the childlike, imaginative vitality I feel when I’m designing. Then, I had an “aha moment”—and Creative Zip was born. Thank you, dad and Zip!

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Partnering with a client and experiencing that “aha moment” when you produce the perfect concept for their project.

What is the funniest and/or strangest thing that has happened in a work environment?

When a co-worker removed the voice receiver from my desk phone.  He told everyone in the cubicles near mine what he had done.  They were all invited to listen as he called me and told me I needed to speak up because we had a bad connection. He is also the same person that took my desk dictionary, and under the word comedian, changed the definition to his name.  That was something I did not find until years later.

And now for a few rapid-fire fun questions:

It’s a beautiful summer afternoon – what are you doing to enjoy it?

  • Hanging out in my hammock without any phones or computer within reach or ear shot.

What makes you laugh?

  • My husband’s bad puns (don’t tell him I said they are bad).

If you're having a terrible day, what should we send to lift your spirits?

  • Send fresh flowers. Love what they can do to an office and my mood.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

  • I am a certified crisis hotline counselor

Tell us something on your bucket list.

  • Visit Australia and hang with the kangaroos.

The group formerly known as the PR and Outreach Committee continues to spread the word about PSMA. We have focused on more frequent communications, instead of only the newsletter. Please let us know if you like what you see. If you don't, wait until Rachel has a glass of wine at the Holiday Party.
